Description

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Jurors listened to audio of a 911 call, heard witness testimony and watched body camera footage during the morning of day two of The State of Texas v. Christopher Wise.

911 Call Recording

As part of the prosecution's questioning of a witness, an audio recording of Christopher Wise's call to 911 was played for jurors.

In the call, Wise, who is accused of killing his wife, Christie Feland, stated that he discovered Feland in a bathtub overflowing with water at her duplex residence. He said that he removed her from the bathtub, placed her on the bed and performed CPR.

When questioned by the dispatcher about Feland's status, Wise said that Feland was cold and stiff. Wise indicated through his conversation with the dispatcher that he believed Feland had drowned herself.

"That was the love of my life right there," Wise could be heard saying in the audio recording.

Patrol Officer Takes the Stand

The State would later call San Angelo Police Department patrol officer Stephanie Kozyn to testify about her experience regarding the incident. Kozyn stated that she was dispatched to the residence at 5:22 a.m. on Nov. 8, 2022, in reference to a deceased individual.

Upon arriving at the scene at 5:28 a.m., Kozyn was met by Wise outside the residence. Kozyn stated Wise said he had found Feland in the bathroom inside an overflowing bathtub with water from the shower hitting her face. Kozyn said she noticed that parts of Wise's clothing were damp and that he was sweating.

Kozyn observed that Feland's body was in rigor mortis on the bed. She also told the jury that she saw multiple injuries on Feland's body.

Kozyn said that Wise asked to use her cell phone to call his mother, which she allowed him to do. She stated that during the call with his mother, Wise indicated that Feland had been burning photos in the backyard prior to the incident. Kozyn also learned through the call that Wise and Feland had been involved in an argument prior to the incident.

Kozyn stated that as more law enforcement began to arrive, she searched the property for evidence of suicide or an accident, finding none. She later called additional law enforcement members to investigate the scene as well as a justice of the peace.

Body Camera Footage

Following Kozyn's initial testimony, the prosecution submitted four footage clips filmed from Kozyn's body camera the night of the incident for jurors to view.

In the footage, Kozyn can be seen approaching the residence and being met by Wise, who was shirtless and wearing jeans, outside. Later parts of the footage show Feland's body partially clothed and lying stiffly on a bed inside the residence.

Other parts of the body camera footage also showed Wise's conversation with his mother that he had using Kozyn's phone. In the recording, Wise could be seen and heard stating that Feland had drank more than one Smirnoff beverage prior to her death, also saying that Feland was not suicidal.

The fourth clip of the recording showed Kozyn searching through parts of the residence. During her search, she discovered two Smirnoff beverages in a refrigerator and one on a table as well an empty beer can in the trash can. Also found in the trash can was a white tank top.
