SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Award-winning soprano Kara Covey will sing at Angelo State University on Sept. 22 as part of a special guest recital held by the college.
According to ASU, the free recital will take place beginning at 4 p.m. in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, located at 2602 Dena Drive. In the building's Eldon Black Recital Hall, Covey will sing while being accompanied by Dr. Mark Covey of the ASU music faculty on guitar and Hunter Mabery, former ASU staff accompanist, on piano.
The repertoire for the recital will feature works by a variety of composers, including:
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
- Libby Larsen
- Franz Liszt
- Richard Strauss
- Manuel Ponce
Covey previously performed at Angelo State as the featured vocalist for the ASU Symphony Orchestra's "Music of the Night" concert in October 2022.
Specializing in verismo and Mozart repertoire, Covey has performed throughout the United States, Mexico, Germany, Italy, Bulgaria and Greece. She is a two-time winner of the prestigious Metropolitan Opera District Auditions as well as a Metropolitan Opera regional finalist. She has also been a semifinalist in the Palm Springs Vocal Competition, Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition and Young Texas Artists Vocal Competition.
