SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Just as San Angelo residents finished mourning the loss of The Crab, another seafood restaurant closed its doors. However, there's still hope for the eatery's shell.

A notice attached to Craving Crab's front door states that the restaurant's staff and owners have been "hereby locked out for delinquent rent owed for the premises located at 4545 Sherwood Way," with demand being made "for payment of the back-due rent." This action was taken in accordance with Chapter 93 of the Texas Property Code, according to the notice.

While the notice indicates that Craving Crab's owners can regain access to the building with a new key by paying the delinquent rent, it appears as though the tenants will not pursue this course of action. This is because Jorge Ramos is already taking steps to open a new restaurant in the building.

Ramos is the proprietor of a restaurant empire that spans multiple establishments across Texas and Mexico, including eateries located in Midland, Odessa and Amarillo. He set his eyes on San Angelo after a local friend suggested bringing his business to town, and after scouring the city for a location, he eventually seized his opportunity following Craving Crab's closure.

"The first time I was in San Angelo was a week-and-a-half ago, I think, and I did fall in love with it," Ramos said. "The San Angelo community is amazing people, so I'm really excited to go be with you guys!"

The restaurant, named C18, will serve seafood, just like the Craving Crab. This won't be just any seafood, though — it'll be cooked by a Mexican native who has built a career cooking authentic Mexican seafood.

"I'm from Mexico, so I really like authentic Mexican plates," Ramos said. "We're bringing this chef from Cancún who specializes in seafood plates. Our menu is 60% seafood."

The remaining portion of the menu will feature Tex-Mex staples, including enchiladas, chimichangas, tacos and taco salads.

"After 5 years in the business and many locations, we've been perfecting the recipes for these plates," Ramos said.

Ramos says that, if all goes according to plan, C18 will open in 1 1/2 months. In the meantime, he plans on remodeling Craving Crab's decor and installing a stage.

"It's a really different concept to any Mexican place, pretty sure you guys are going to like it," Ramos said.
