SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — An employee of The Grill has confirmed with Concho Valley Homepage that plans are being made to migrate the 16-year-old San Angelo restaurant's operations to a new location. There's more than just a bigger building in the works, though — there may be an entirely new restaurant in store as well.

Interest in the possibility of The Grill moving to a new location was first generated after the business appeared in the pending commercial projects section of the City of San Angelo's November 2024 permits and inspections report. Listed alongside the restaurant is an address of 5730 Sherwood Way, where a former Shannon clinic can be found across Sherwood Way from The Grill's existing storefront.

Travis McMillan, a general manager working at The Grill, stated that the location was bought approximately three years ago by Felipe Armenta, the owner of The Grill. McMillan stated that, although Armenta was unable to divert his full attention toward the acquisition at the time, Armenta is now making plans to convert the clinic building into the next home for The Grill.

"I know we just had some things approved, I think, this past month, to start getting it going," McMillan said. "I know we were waiting on a couple of bids to have somebody remodel for us."

McMillan shared that the remodeling process has a projected duration of "roughly six months." He said the remodeling would remedy issues such as limited storage and competition with nearby businesses for parking that sparked the decision to migrate the restaurant's operations.

"It would just help us tremendously to get a bigger location with more storage and more parking," McMillan said.

There's more than just better parking options and a more spacious dining environment in store for patrons, however, as new cuisines and drinks may also accompany the shift to a larger location. McMillan stated that an expanded and overhauled menu is being considered for the prospective eatery.

"With a bigger restaurant, it gives us the option to expand our menu and add a lot of new ideas and creations from Felipe," McMillan said. "We're limited on our menu because we're limited on space."

The existing location wouldn't be forgotten, though. McMillan said Armenta may be planning to turn the current storefront into a separate, new restaurant.

"I know he signed a lease recently, so he [Armenta] plans on keeping it and turning it into a different concept," McMillan said. "He's tossed quite a few things up in the air, but I don't think he's settled on anything yet."

The Grill is a restaurant located in San Angelo where "Chef Felipe Armenta combines eclectic Southwest cuisine with a world class wine list, hand crafted cocktails and memorable service," according to the business's website.
