SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — One of the jobs of the city of San Angelo's water utilities department is to ensure the safety and quality of the city water supply And that requires constant testing.
Both the federal e-p-a and the state of Texas regulate the amount of contaminants in water provided by public water systems. City public works director cases that mean testing several times a day on the water that enters and then leaves the city's water treatment plant.
Shane Kelton -executive director of public works says, "Our technicians go out and we test a hundred different sites every month for water quality. And we're testing for E. coli and total coli form samples to make sure that the, whether we're using free chlorine in June, in that June to July time frame, or we're using our chloramines for disinfectant when we're using our disinfectants in the water, we're making sure that our disinfectants are working properly and that there are not any issues within the distribution system."
The most recent numbers from 2022 Showed that the city of San Angelo's average daily water usage was 14 million gallons of water every day.
