Description

Canyon, Texas – The Angelo State softball team dropped their first game of the day against West Texas A&M, 2-1, in the winner's bracket before bouncing back and eliminating Colorado Mesa, 1-0, as the Rambelles stayed alive in the South Central regional on Friday at Schaeffer Park.

Against the hosts, Erin Plunkett's leadoff single and Tatiana Trotter's walk set up Averie Gunther, who singled down the left field line to drive in the game's first run in the opening frame.

The Lady Buffs would tie the game in the third inning before taking the lead on a solo home run the following inning. WT would hold the 2-1 advantage for the rest of the game to advance in the regional.

Cheyenne Floyd went the distance in the circle, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out five.

The Rambelles' rematch with Colorado Mesa, this time in an elimination game, only saw one run scored on five hits between the two teams.

Abby Brand led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a bunt, forcing an errant throw from Mavericks pitcher Preslee Christansen, which saw the sophomore advance to second base.

Laylonna Applin, with the fifth and final hit of the game, singled up the middle, scoring pinch runner Paris Brienesse and giving the Rambelles a one-run advantage.

Amelia Hatthorn turned in her best start in her Angelo State career, allowing one hit and one walk while only allowing two baserunners. The Mavericks did not touch third base against the senior right-hander from Danbury as she earned her 13th win in 2025.

The Rambelles improve to 46-13 this season. The Rambelles and the Lady Buffs meet tomorrow, with the Rambelles needing to beat WT twice to advance to the Super Regionals.
