Canyon, Texas – The Angelo State softball team fought hard against West Texas A&M in the South Central regional final, defeating the Lady Buffs 8-0 in a five-inning run-rule in game one before falling to the hosts 3-0 in the winner-take-all matchup.
The Rambelles, the designated home team in both games, loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back-to-back singles by Tatiana Trotter, Averie Gunther, and Carter Smith.
Zoey De Baca ripped a line drive off the Lady Buffs' third baseman's glove, which scored a pair of runs.
A fielding error in the third inning put a runner on base for Tatiana Trotter, who homered over the left field fence to double the Rambelles' advantage.
Singles by McMillan and Trotter to lead off the fifth inning set up Gunther, whose double to left field plated McMillan.
Smith followed with a groundball that saw the hosts commit a throwing error, scoring two runs.
With one out and the bases loaded, an Erin Plunkett ground ball to second base saw the walk-off run scored as the throw home was not in time.
For the second successive game, a Rambelles senior pitcher threw a one-hitter, with this one coming courtesy of Cheyenne Floyd, who earned the 27th win of her season.
The win is the first time the Lady Buffs have been run-ruled at Schaeffer Park under head coach Michael Mook, and the first time WT has been run-ruled at home since March 16th, 2019, when they dropped a 13-5 game against East Texas A&M.
Floyd went the distance, allowing one hit while striking out four, and did not allow a Lady Buff runner to touch third base.
The Lady Buffs struck for two runs in the third inning of game two and another run in the fourth inning, and that proved to be enough as the Rambelles' offense struggled against Emilee Boyer, not recording a hit until the fifth inning.
Amelia Hatthorn and Floyd combined in the circle in game two; Hatthorn pitched the first two innings, allowing two hits and a run, while Floyd threw the final five innings, allowing two hits and two runs.
The Rambelles finish the 2025 campaign with a 47-14 overall record, their best season since 2018.
