SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — San Angelo Independent School District students looking for something to do this summer may be in luck thanks to the district's summer program scheduling.

SAISD unveiled a full line-up of summer programs on May 1. Students of all grade levels are welcome to attend the events as they unfold.

"San Angelo ISD is excited to offer a number of free, enriching summer program opportunities for our students of all ages starting this June," the district said. "We invite students to join SAISD educators in a fun and inspiring environment designed to develop their individual creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication skills that are an important part of the SAISD Learner Profile and future-readiness."

Elementary School Literacy Camp for Incoming Third-Graders

According to SAISD, "this engaging literacy camp for current 2nd graders entering 3rd grade, and will focus on building literacy skills needed to develop reading and writing stamina, motivation, independence and leadership skills."

  • June 4-27, Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon
  • Held at Bradford Elementary and Crockett Elementary
  • Students must be invited in order to register (contact your student's campus for more information)

Kindergarten Jump Start Program

A program to help children entering kindergarten "jump start" their school experience by helping them "to better understand what it means to be an elementary student and to feel prepared." The program includes interactive classroom routines and procedures, and enrollment will prioritize students with no prior school experience.

  • Session 1 (Fannin, McGill and Santa Rita Elementary)
    • July 25, 26, 29 and 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
    • Held at Santa Rita Elementary
    • To Register, complete this form if your student will attend kindergarten at Fannin, McGill or Santa Rita next year (deadline to register is Tuesday, June 4)
  • Session 2 (Bowie, Bonham, and Lamar Elementary)
    • July 25, 26, 29 and 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
    • Held at Lamar Elementary
    • To Register, complete this form if your student will attend kindergarten at Fannin, McGill or Santa Rita next year (deadline to register is Tuesday, June 4)
  • Session 3 (Glenmore, San Jacinto, Belaire and Fort Concho Elementary)
    • July 25, 26, 29 and 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
    • Held at Glenmore Elementary
    • To Register, complete this form if your student will attend kindergarten at Fannin, McGill or Santa Rita next year (deadline to register is Tuesday, June 4)
  • Session 4 (Bradford, Goliad, Holiman and Reagan Elementary)
    • July 25, 26, 29 and 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
    • Held at Goliad Elementary

Elementary School Bilingual Summer Program

This program, held for any of SAISD's current pre-K and kindergarten Emergent Bilingual students, is designed " for English language learning with a focus on individual student needs." Students will be able to develop their literacy through reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as through social interaction.

  • June 3-27, Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Held at Bradford Elementary
  • To register, complete this form and return it to your students home campus (the deadline to register is Friday, May 31) 

Special Programs Extended School Year

This program is open to all eligible students with disabilities and "provides individualized instruction beyond the regular school year."

  • July 22 - August 2, Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
  • Held at Lamar Elementary, Central High School and Lake View High School

SAISD STEM Camps

According to SAISD, "this one-day camp is an opportunity for students to explore future-ready STEM fun in engaging ways like robotics, coding, and working with Makerspace and the Innovation Station." The camp is open to currently enrolled SAISD students who are in second-grade through eighth grade during the 2023-2024 school year.

  • Kids STEM Camp (Grades 2nd-4th)
    • Choose from Wednesday, July 10, or Thursday, July 1; 8:30 am - 3:25 pm
    • Held at Goliad Elementary
    • Registration opens on May 13 at 8 a.m. To register, visit www.saisd.org/stemkidscamp.
  • Middle School STEM Camp (Grades 5th-8th)
    • Thursday, July 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.
    • Held at Lincoln Middle School

Middle School Jump Start Summer Program

A program to help incoming sixth-graders to "jump start" their school experience by preparing them ahead of time. According to SAISD, "students will experience middle school academics, specifically focused on reading and math, while also learning how to be successful."

  • Dates/Times: Four 2-day sessions to choose from including:
    • Monday-Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
    • Wednesday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Camp enrollment is first-come, first-served. Some camps may fill faster than others.
    • Camp 1: June 5-6, Wednesday-Thursday
    • Camp 2: June 10-11, Monday-Tuesday
    • Camp 3: June 12-13, Wednesday-Thursday
    • Camp 4: June 17-18, Monday-Tuesday
  • Locations: Glenn Middle School, Lincoln Middle School and Lone Star Middle School (students should attend the program at the middle school they will attend in the upcoming school year. Parents can determine which school their student is eligible to attend by entering their address in SAISD's Infofinder system.)

High School Credit Recovery and End-Of-Course (EOC) Prep Program

According to SAISD, "Central High School and Lake View High School will offer opportunities for students to recover credits that they did not successfully complete during the 2023-2024 school year." The program will utilize accelerated instruction to prepare students for End-of-Course exams, which will be held in June.

  • Session 1 (Credit Recovery, In-Person)
    • June 5-20, Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon
    • Held at Central High School and Lake View High School
    • Contact campus to register
  • End-Of-Course Prep Program (In-Person)
    • June 5-20, Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon
    • Held at Central High School and Lake View High School
    • Contact campus to register
  • Session 2 (Credit Recovery, Virtual)
    • July 9-25, Tuesdays and Thursdays for testing, questions or help from 8 a.m. to noon
    • Held via Zoom
    • Contact campus to register 

SAISD Summer Athletic Camps

These camps will see SAISD coaches and staff host camps for various sports for students from elementary through high school. The camps have varying registration fees, dates, times and locations. Camps will include the following sports: baseball, soccer, swimming, tennis, gymnastics, basketball, softball, volleyball and football.

Summer Meal Program

SAISD plans to provide children and teens ages 18 and younger with meals, including breakfast and lunch, for no cost at Summer Meal Program sites beginning in June. According to SAISD, "children do not have to be classified as economically disadvantaged to participate, and there is no paperwork to complete."
