San Angelo ISD Hosts San Angelo Chamber Young Professionals for March Event

March 26, 2024

Approximately 100 people joined San Angelo ISD and the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce in the Glenn Middle School cafeteria for the Young Professionals monthly event March 7.

The Young Professionals is a dynamic group of more than 300 young leaders from varying backgrounds and industries who all have in common the desire to serve the community and network with like-minded individuals. Members have the opportunity to develop socially, professionally and civically through multiple after-school-hours events throughout the year, including a monthly social event.

The March event centered around San Angelo ISD students and their talents. Guests had the opportunity to view more than 30 pieces of artwork created by SAISD art students and were treated to hors d'oeuvres, prepared and served by SAISD culinary students. Twenty-six members of the Central High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Mike Barry, performed and provided the entertainment for the evening. Guests also had the opportunity to tour Glenn’s unique campus.

“I thought hosting at Glenn created a unique experience, it’s not something you would think of when planning an event, but there was a lot of meaning behind it,” said Jesenia Rodriguez, San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Events Coordinator and Young Professionals Liaison. “I think bringing the Young Professionals to the campus was insightful, some of our members may have their kids attending or may potentially attend Glenn.”

During the evening, guests also had the opportunity to hear from two local non-profit organizations: Donate Educational Supplies to Kids (D.E.S.K.) and San Angelo Schools Foundation (SASF.) Guests heard from D.E.S.K. President Eric Wilson and SAISD Executive Director and SAISD Representative for SASF Molly Turk and learned about what each organization does for the community.

“Before the event I was thinking, ‘man what is this going to look like?’” Miss Rodriguez said. “Being from a small town I’m not used to students being exposed to so many different opportunities and great programs. It was a great way to highlight what SAISD has to offer their students and just because they may be in high school or middle school DOESN’T mean they are not talented – by being in the district they have the opportunity to expand and grow their love for their talents/hobbies. It was a great event!”

San Angelo ISD would like to thank those who attended the Young Professionals March event. We would also like to thank our students and the following SAISD Difference Makers Deborah Decker, Teresa Maskill, Mike Barry, Roxanne Fentress and Tiffany Huebner, for their help in putting on a terrific event.
