SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Early voting for the May city elections begins on April 22. Meet Lt. Chris Cimino, a candidate running for the upcoming San Angelo Police Chief election.

Lt. Cimino shared that he is running for chief of police because of internal issues that have not been dealt with in the over 19 years he has been employed by SAPD. Some of these include deep-seated issues, the "good ole boy system", lack of discipline and a police manual that is over 800 pages and is not "quite up to snuff with legal", he explained.

"If I am elected I intend to focus on all those internal issues that I mentioned in the previous question, to make sure that we're doing things the right way, everything everyone's treated the same," Lt. Cimino said. "There's no more good ol boy system of favoritism or anything like that and we're doing the best job we can for the citizens of San Angelo."

Prior to joining the San Angelo Police Department, Lt. Cimino served in the U.S. Marine Corps and obtained a college degree in anthropology. Since joining the department 19 years ago he has served in patrol as a field training officer, as a narcotics detective, as a CID detective, as a canine handler, as a sergeant and created the Anti-Riot Company. Lt. Cimino was selected as the pro-supervisor of the year, obtained his master peace officer license in 2014 and currently has 37 officers under his command.

"If I'm elected the things I'm looking forward to most are making sure we're doing things the right way," said Lt. Cimino. "That all the internal issues that we've been neglecting for my entire career get corrected."
