LAST TIME OUT:
The Rams found themselves with their back against the wall after dropping the night cap versus Lubbock Christian in day one of the Lone Star Conference Tournament last Thursday. However, the team made history, defeating UT Tyler in a 12 inning thriller, getting revenge on the Chaps before taking down St. Edward's twice on championship Saturday to become the first team, in the current playoff format (debuting in 2012), to win the tournament coming out of the elimination bracket.
The home crowd saw several stellar pitching appearances from the Blue and Gold including one from every starter in the regular season rotation:
Dax Dathe vs LCU: 6 IP, H, 2 BB, 9 SO
Alizaeh Guttierrez vs #5 UTT: 8.1 IP. 2 ER, 4 H, 4 BB, 4 SO
Ryan Free vs LCU: 5.1 IP, H, 6BB, 2 SO
Nick Wilson vs SEU: CG, SHO, 7 IP, H, BB, 6 SO
Furthermore, the bullpen fought through adversity several times to keep the Rams ahead or in ball games throughout the weekend including Luke Olson giving 3.2 shutout innings of extra innings work against UT Tyler and Clayton Broeder entering the ballgame with the bases loaded in the eighth inning and collected three straight strikeouts and eventually getting the save in the championship game vs St. Edward's.
At the plate, the Rams had contributions throughout the entire lineup. Lane Hutchinson brought in the game winning run against the Patriots, Chase Pendley and Austin Beck contributed six runs each in the 15-3 victory over the Chaps. Finally, Jacob Guerrero, Justin Harris, Pendley and Valasek each had major contributions in the Championship doubleheader against the Hilltoppers.
SCOUTING THE FIELD:
(4) St. Edward's Hilltoppers
Record: 36-21 (31-17, LSC)
2025 vs Rams: 1-5; 1-3 Regular Season in San Angelo; 0-2 in LSC Tournament
The Hilltoppers played spoiler over the weekend, upsetting nationally ranked UT Tyler to open the bracket before leaning on their ace, Kobe Jaramillo, to outduel Chap's ace Ryan Markwardt in a 1-0 thriller before dropping both contests and falling in the tournament championship to ASU. Overall, the weekend saw the Hilltoppers team stats improve as they had five players named to the LSC All-Tournament Team.

The "Cardiac" Chaps struck the Rams once again during the Lone Star Conference Tournament as LCU pieced together a 11-run top of the eighth to defeat the ASU in day one's nightcap. In day two, Ryan Markwardt dueled Jaramillo of SEU and allowed the game's only run on a bases loaded suicide squeeze in the bottom of the eighth. The rematch with the Rams later that night did not go the Chapparals way as the Rams scored early and often in a 15-3 loss that knocked them out of the tournament.
