SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Ballinger business owners may want to check whether the $100 bills they receive are authentic in light of a recent warning from the Ballinger Police Department regarding an alleged trio of fraudsters.
According to a statement issued by the Ballinger Police Department on Sept. 10, multiple fraudulent $100 bills have been used in stores throughout the town.
The police department believes the suspects are three people operating a "dark, newer model" Dodge Durango. It asks residents to call its non-emergency dispatch line at (325)-365-3591 to report suspicious activity.
The United States Currency Education Program lists several ways to determine whether a $100 bill is fake through its "Denominations" webpage, with notes issued from 2013 to the present time having identifying features such as security threads, 3D security ribbons and color-shifting ink. To see a list of these features and an interactive $100 graphic that pinpoints where many of these markers can be found, visit uscurrency.gov/denominations/100.
"Be safe, B-Town!" the Ballinger Police Department said.
