RICHARDSON, Texas - Following a weekend that saw the Angelo State women's tennis team beat Central Oklahoma 4-3 and defeat No.24 Missouri Western 4-3 for the first time in program history. Ivet Stancheva was recognized as the Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the organization announced this morning.
Against Central Oklahoma, the Belles were forced to play on three courts. When Stancheva hit the court the Rambelles were down 3-1. Stancheva would tie the match 3-3 defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-0.
Against No. 24 Missouri Western, Stancheva defeated her opponent 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 in a three-set thriller to tie the match 3-3 once again.
With the two victories over the weekend, Stancheva is unbeaten in her last 11 matches.
This is Stancheva first Player of the Week honors in her career.
This is the seventh time a Belle has received a weekly honor under head coach Jason Potthoff.
Stancheva and the Belles are back in action as they take on Ouachita Baptist on Friday and Arkansas Tech on Saturday.
