SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 2 Angelo State baseball team will hit the road for the second time in the 2025 campaign as the Rams travel to Edmond, Okla. to begin a four game Lone Star Conference series beginning on Saturday, Feb. 22. The series was originally scheduled to begin Friday but has since been pushed back a day to counter expected inclement weather in the area.

SERIES HISTORY:

All-Time Series: ASU leads the series 15-1

Last Meeting: Mar. 10, 2024: ASU, 15-1 – San Angelo

Since the series began in 2018, the Rams have dominated the series with a 15-1 record including winning nine straight entering the weekend.

LAST TIME OUT:

The Blue and Gold increased the winning streak to six games after the Rams swept Sul Ross State by a total score of 66-11.

Highlights from the plate include eight total home runs hit during the weekend including two by Jacob Guerrero in game two of the series as Brett Smajstrla hit one in each game of the doubleheader on Saturday. Austin Beck went 8-10 from the plate and reached base 15 times over the weekend and scored seven times throughout the weekend.

On the mound, Josh Reed, David Dressendorfer and Jude Cook each made their 2025 debuts and allowed two runs while striking out eight batters faced in their combined seven complete innings of work.

SCOUTING OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN:

Oklahoma Christian enter the weekend with a 2-6 record after the Eagles opened the 2025 campaign with a run-rule victory over St. Mary's before the team dropped the next six games before winning the series finale at Lubbock Christian in a 16-15 contest this past Sunday.

At the plate, OCU serve as the median of the conference statistically, hitting for a .287 batting average which is tied for seventh. The Eagles feature four players with an OPS over 1.000; Sloan Laird, who is sixth in the LSC with his .500 batting average and leads the team with his .591 on-base percentage. Michael Adair leads the team with 11 hits thus far in 2025. Lastly, Cason Gregory and Hunter Jones have been responsible for a combined 26 runs scored for the Eagles.

On the mound, Tristan Copeland spotlights an Eagles pitching staff that sits ninth in the conference in team ERA. Copeland was named LSC Pitcher of the Week two weeks ago after he collected 18 strikeouts and allowed just one hit over 9 1/3 shutout innings that spanned two relief appearances against St. Mary's.

PRESEASON CONFERENCE FAVORITES:

The Rams were selected as the favorites to take the 2025 LSC crown, earning the top spot in the preseason poll with 483 points, including 29 of the 39 first-place votes. Coming in second was Lubbock Christian followed by West Texas A&M, UT Tyler and St. Edwards to round out the top five.
