WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Angelo State women's basketball team dropped a tight contest to Midwestern State Saturday afternoon inside the D.L. Ligon Coliseum, with the hosting Mustangs ending the night with an 80-76 victory.

 

The Belles fall to 16-9 overall and 12-7 in Lone Star Conference action.

 

40 Minute Rundown 

  • The Mustangs opened the game on a, 11-0 run. 
  • Keniah Williams scored the first bucket for the Rambelles at the 6:48 marker in the first quarter. 
  • The Belles went on a 14-2 of their own with Addy Burns hitting a three to give the Rambelles a,16-13, lead with 2:51 remaining in the quarter. 
  • The Belles would go into the second quarter of action up one, 17-16.
  • Zarria Carter recorded back-to-back baskets for the Mustangs to give them a, 26-21 lead. 
  • The Mustangs went on a 12-3 run to bring their lead out to, 38-26, with 2:52 remaining until halftime.
  • The Mustangs ended the half on a 9-0 run to bring their lead to, 47-31.
  • The Belles started the second half on a 10-2 run to bring their deficit to six, 49-43, with 5:26 remaining.
  • The Belles would head into the final quarter of action trailing, 62-53.
  •  Madi Lumsden scored the first points of the third quarter for the Rambelles bringing the deficit to seven, 62-55.
  • Stephens hit a three from the top of the key to tie the game, 73-73, with 4:08 remaining in the contest.
  • Kerbie Cash of Midwestern State would hit two clutch free throws with 50 seconds remaining to give the Mustangs a, 77-76 lead.
  • Zarria Carter would end up hitting the dagger to give the Mustangs an 80-76 victory over the Rambelles.

 

Game Stats

  • Keniah Williams broke the Lone Star Conference record for blocks in a game with 15 and also tied for second in DII for blocks in a game.
  • ASU set the LSC single-game block shots record for a team with 20.
  • Stephens led the team in scoring with 24 points, while also contributing seven rebounds, three blocks, and two steals on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Madi Lumsden would once again be consistent as she recorded 16 points, two rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
  • The Belles had seven different scorers in the contest.
  • The Blue and Gold shot 50 percent (29-58) from the field, 30 percent (4-13) from behind the arc, and 82 percent (14-17) from the free throw line.
