SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) The Rams and Rambelles were back in action this past weekend, fresh off the winter break. The Men and Women of Angelo State Hoops came back to the Concho Valley 4-0 after dominating the past few days.
The Rambelles and Rams both tipped off the New Year Friday against Western New Mexico. The ladies were up first. They left the first quarter with a 28-9 lead and went into halftime up 37-22. The Rambelles closes the game on a 20-4 run to open the New Year with a conference win, winning 66-49. Freshman Majik Esquivel led all Belles in Friday's contest with her 20 points and 5 made thress, both career highs. The Belles although losing the turnover battle, never trailed in Friday's game moving the winning streak to 7 straight.
The Rambelles then entered Sunday's game against LSC newcomer Sul Ross State. This game got out of hand from the jump after the Belles opened Sundays contest on a 24-1 run. Winning the game in dominate fashion 92-49. The Rambelles were led in Sunday's game by Madeline Stephens the player of the game. Stephens recorded her 7th straight double double this time notching a 17 point 13 rebound effort. Keniah Williams also recorded a 16 point 10 rebound double double herself, her 6th of the year. Madi Lumsden finishes with 14 points, her 6th consecutive game with double digits. The Rambelles again didn't trail in this game, shooting 48 pct with help from the bench going for 47 points, a Rambelles season high.
The Rams are up now. They entered Friday's game also facing the Western New Mexico. The Rams started the weekend strong shooting 58% from the field. The Rams were led by Sterling Gaston-Chapman and his 15 points. Shemar Smith led all Rams in rebounds while also logging 12 points, his first double digit game in the past 8 contests. The Rams won Friday's game 75-63. The Rams are 8-2 this season when holding opponents to under 66 points.
The Rams then entered Sunday's match also against the LSC Newcomer Sul Ross State. The Rams matched the ladies energy who started their game on a 24-1 run, starting the game on a 15-0 run themselves, winning 77-64 at the final buzzer. It was all Rams all game in this one again shooting a high pct from the field, this time 51%. SGC, Sterling Gaston-Chapman led all Rams just like Friday with a career high 22 points, now scoring double digits in 10 of 13 games for ASU. Shemar Smith also had himself a season high 15 points, his 5th double digit game.
The Rambelles now move to 10-3 on the season, 6-1 in conference play, winners of 8 straight. And for the Rams, they now improve to 9-4 on the season, 5-2 in Lone Star Conference play, winners of 3 of their last 4.
Both the Men and Ladies are back at home this Thursday the 9th for the 2025 home opener at 5:30pm and 7:30pm against West Texas A&M in the Junell Center.
