SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) Angelo State opened their season losing their first 2 games. Since then, the Rams have rallied off 8 straight wins and clinch their 2nd Lone Star Conference title in the past 3 seasons.

The 23rd ranked Rams close out the season champions of the LSC. They did so dominating all 3 phases of the game this season. The Rams averaged just around 390 yards per game, out scoring opponents 277-76 since week 2. Quarterback Braeden Fuller led the offense to 7 straight wins, putting up 17 total touchdowns in those 7 games, all before todays matchup with Western Oregon. He added on another 315 yards through and 3 more scores in the 38-16 win over Western Oregon, also racking up 3 LSC player of the week nominations. On the defensive side of the ball, Andrew Pitts, or as I like to say Andrew "picks" led the defense in interceptions, a unit that secured an interception in every game this season and 11 of their last 12 games dating back to last year also sporting a few LSC player of the week nominees with Eric Rascoe and Kenton Allen receiving the award a few times as well. Now remember I said all 3 phases of the game were dominated. The Rams punter Cade Fuller was also named as the special teams player of the week at least once this year while finishing top 5 in yards per punt and leading all active Division 2 FBS players in net yards at the time of his nomination.

Head Coach Jeff Girsch led a strong, motivated, hard working team that was given obstacles in the season early with an injury at Quarterback and 2 losses to kickoff the season. I met with Jeff Girsch every Monday and every week he had an analysis and a breakdown of what Angelo State needed to fix. And every week you could see on film those mistakes and issues were fixed and the season continued. 8 straight wins later, a perfect 8-0 in conference play and Angelo State has secured their 2nd Lone Star Conference title in the past 3 seasons. Hats off to Head Coach Jeff Girsch, the other coaches and the players of this fantastic team. Well deserved and much earned.

Angelo State concludes the regular season at home this Saturday Night against West Texas A&M. Kickoff set for 6pm. See you there Concho Valley.
