SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The City of San Angelo has announced that the San Angelo Animal Shelter will reopen intake near the beginning of November after the shelter confirmed that there are no more positive canine distemper cases at the facility.
The City stated that the shelter's animal intake is scheduled to reopen on Nov. 4. It also said "zero dogs died as a result of the disease" and that Concho Valley PAWS had assisted in monitoring the shelter's dog population during the closure period, which will span 25 days once it concludes.
Animal intake was closed on Oct. 10 after the City stated that a dog brought in from outside the shelter had tested positive for canine distemper. The City said the disease, which it described as “often fatal,” had potentially been spread to multiple other dogs housed at the facility.
"Citizens are reminded to please stay updated on pet vaccines," the City said.
