Description

Louisville, Ky. – A pair of Angelo State softball standouts – Laylonna Applin and Cheyenne Floyd – were named NFCA All-Americans, with Applin appearing on the first team, and Floyd was named to the third team, the organization announced this evening at the Division II National Championship Banquet.

This is Applin's first All-American honor of her career and Floyd's second; the senior right-hander was on the second team in 2024. The Rambelles have had multiple All-Americans in the same season for the tenth time in program history, marking the first time since 2018.

Applin, who is the first Rambelle to earn first-team honors since Paxton Scheurer in 2022, served as the Rambelles' full-time shortstop in 2025 after moving around the diamond in her rookie season. The Health Science Professions student strung together one of the best seasons in program history. She hit .412 at the plate with an .807 slugging percentage and a .486 on-base percentage. She struck out only 15 times in 214 plate appearances.

She recorded 21 multi-hit games and held a 22-game hitting streak, as well as a 34-game streak of reaching base during the season.

Applin's season ranks in the top ten in program history: batting average, slugging percentage, doubles, triples, RBI, and total bases.

Applin is the second Rambelle shortstop to earn All-American honors, joining Macy Baker in 2009, and is the first one to feature on the first team. She is the 14th player in program history to earn first team plaudits.

Floyd improved upon a campaign where she was named the LSC Pitcher of the Year in 2024. The Coaching, Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Administration student owned a 27-7 record inside the circle with a 1.71 ERA. She struck out 199 batters in 184.2 innings and held opposing batters to a league-best .177 batting average.

She struck out eight or more batters in 11 appearances this season and has thrown two no-hitters. In the postseason, she made six appearances (five starts), striking out 29 batters in 34.2 innings as she helped the Rambelles reach their first regional final since 2018. Floyd threw a one-hitter against West Texas A&M to force a winner-take-all game, striking out four Lady Buffs in five innings.

In her time at ASU, Floyd was 55-26 with a 1.96 ERA. She struck out 480 batters, the second most in program history.

Floyd is the tenth Rambelle in program history to earn multiple All-American honors and the first since Brandy Marlett repeated in 2017-18.

The Rambelles finished the 2025 campaign with a 47-14 overall record and an appearance in the South Central regional final, their best season since 2018.
