Description

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) The Blackwell Hornets will face the No. 1-ranked Jayton Jaybirds in a Class 1A Division II area playoff Thursday night in Hermleigh.

Blackwell is 5-6 and Jayton is 10-0. The Jaybirds lead the all-time series with the Hornets 10-7, but Blackwell got the upper hand in the last meeting in the 2019 state quarterfinals.

The Hornets opened the playoffs with a 56-30 win against Balmorhea last week. Jayton blew out Crowell 54-6.

We caught up with Blackwell head coach Wiley Cummings on Wednesday.
