City of San Angelo Proclaims March 7 ‘SAISD Difference Maker Day’

March 11, 2025

Mayor Brenda Gunter and the San Angelo City Council officially declared Friday, March 7, 2025, as SAISD Difference Maker Day — a day to honor and celebrate the more than 1,800 incredible San Angelo ISD staff members who make a difference in the lives of nearly 13,000 students each and every day.

“We’re honored to serve the students of San Angelo ISD,” said Dr. Christopher Moran, San Angelo ISD Superintendent of Schools, during the City Council Meeting. “We are thankful for the nearly 13,000 kids that we serve and the 17 to 1800 employees that we support and who serve our children day in and day out … Thank you for the support that you give the school district and for the opportunity we have to serve you.”

Mayor Gunter read from the proclamation, emphasizing the immense impact of San Angelo ISD’s educators and staff. “San Angelo Independent School District educators and staff impact the future of San Angelo daily – through their care for, and dedication and commitment to, the children of our city,” she said. “Their impact happens from the moment a child steps on a bus, walks through the school door, is fed a nourishing breakfast and lunch, and throughout the day until the last bell, and beyond. Educators and the entire SAISD team make a difference in each child’s life, and with almost 13,000 students, this is an incredible impact on our community.”

The proclamation continued, highlighting the future possibilities for SAISD students: “Today we acknowledge the special commitment our SAISD educators and staff have on the well-being of our children. They provide a relevant and inspiring education, preparing future-ready graduates. These graduates may one day care for your loved ones as a nurse or doctor at a local hospital, address cybersecurity threats that impact our community, create beautiful artwork or music for others to enjoy, or go on to teach the next generation of San Angeloans. At SAISD they often say, “Our people make the difference,” and today we honor the San Angelo Difference Makers, those who inspire and prepare our students and support their hopes and dreams.”

Throughout the day, 30 community partner organizations and businesses joined in the celebration, expressing their appreciation for San Angelo ISD educators and staff. Each provided all staff members at a particular campus or department with treats or tokens of appreciation. Some organizations even adopted two campuses or departments, further demonstrating the strong community support for the district’s employees. More than 1800 staff members from 32 campuses and departments across San Angelo ISD were recognized for their hard work and commitment to shaping the future of local students.
