SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Concho Valley's weather in 2024 has been nothing but unpredictable including floods, fires, and earthquakes.
In September, Matt Armstrong, a Tom Green County Sheriff's Deputy, was the first to help a truck that was getting swept away by flood waters. With the help of first responders, Armstrong and crew were able to rescue five people stuck in the flood.
West Texas saw 3 earthquakes this year. One of the earthquakes reached a magnitude of 5.0 quake in July.
"This is a reminder that mother nature is unpredictable, so we as a community need to prepare ourselves for any type of disaster," said Emergency Coordinator Jose Rivera.
In June, a fire in Ruidoso, New Mexico, affected one of Concho Valley residents/horse trainer Brad Bollin. He had to move all his horses out of Ruidoso until the fire ended a week later.
