SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — This year looked a little different for some people.

In 2024, three murders took place in San Angelo and four people received sentencing for murders during trial.

The first murder that took place in the Concho Valley took place just a few hours after the new year began. San Angelo had two more murders happen in June and October. Ballinger had a murder take place in March.

Here is a look at some murders and murder trials that took place in San Angelo in 2024:

Murders

New Year's Killing

The life of 23-year-old Jakob Jones was taken on the night of Monday, January 1, 2024, following a shooting that took place before 3 a.m. in 100 Blk of South Chadbourne St. First responders attempted to administer life-saving treatment but the victim died on the scene. Ryan Renfroe, 33, was arrested at the scene.

Ballinger woman found dead in own home

James Barker, 45, was arrested in Ballinger on March 5 after his wife was found dead in her own home. Officers were dispatched to the residence in the afternoon to conduct a welfare check. They found Mary Barker deceased. James Barker was arrested later that day.

Woman takes man's life before taking her own

Officers were dispatched to the 100 Blk of E. 21st St at around 10 a.m. on June 11 for a welfare check. Upon arrival, two deceased individuals were located in the residence. During the investigation, it was determined that 29-year-old Malneshia Clark shot 72-year-old Francis Jr. before she took her own life.

Man shoots sister's boyfriend

On Oct. 1, Mason Taylor was taken into custody and charged with murder following a fatal shooting that took the life of his sister's boyfriend. This shooting took place in the 1500 Blk of South David Street around 8:04 a.m. According to reports, 23-year-old Hunter Seth Joyner appeared to have been shot multiple times but succumbed to his injuries at Shannon Medical Center. Mollie Whitfield was also taken into custody but charged with burglary of a habitation to commit a felony.

Trials

Man found guilty of killing US Marine

Ray Vera received a sentence of life in prison after a jury found him guilty of stabbing and killing Staff Sgt. Bryce Rudisell on April 10. Officers were dispatched to Whiskey River Saloon on Oct. 2, 2022. Tensions inside the bar escalated, causing a fight among Vera, Rusidell and those they were with that night.

Man sentenced for murder

Christopher Wise was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of murdering Christie Feland, his fiancee, on Nov. 8, 2022. An autopsy determined that Feland had died due to blunt force trauma. A San Angelo detective shared with the court that is believed that Wise had been cheating on Feland.

New Year's Killing

Ryan Renfroe, who shot and killed Jakob Jones in the early morning hours of January 1, 2024, was sentenced to life in prison by a jury in Tom Green County,

Abilene man receives life sentence

On his 21st birthday, Francisco Morales took a plea deal for life in prison for the murder for the murder of Jacob Hernandez. On May 26, 2021, Morales entered an apartment at Nueve Vista Apartments, where Hernandez was located. Eric Aguillon and Amethyst Deanda, two co-defendants are facing charges of capital murder. Co-defendant David Rodriguez pled guilty to murder in exchange for life in prison on July 1.
