While the Central Bobcats were already eliminated from playoff contention, that meant nothing to Mark Smith's squad. The Bobcats looked for their second consecutive district win to at least end the season on a high note.
Frenship drew first blood as Holden Phillips scrambled to his left and pitched the ball to Leyton Stone for a 13-yard touchdown, giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead.
On the Tigers' second possession, Phillips found Hayden Wilson who sped his way into the end zone, increasing the lead to 14-0.
The Bobcats responded on the first play of the second quarter as Christian "Squeaky" English faked a handoff, made a couple men miss, diving into the end zone to put Central on the board.
Central trailed 28-7 at halftime, but things changed in the second half. After trailing 36-15, the Bobcats miraculously scored 22 unanswered points en route to a 37-36 lead.
What started as a blowout became a back-and-forth thriller. Frenship regained the lead at 44-37 before Central tied the game with a minute left in regulation.
Frenship ultimately got the last laugh however, drilling a go-ahead field goal with about 30 seconds left. Central failed to respond on its ensuing possession, coming up short in a thriller.
In his first season as Central head coach, Mark Smith finishes with a 1-4 district record and 4-6 overall. Despite a disappointing ending this season, Central finishes with three more wins than its 1-9 record in 2023.
