SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — A GoFundMe online fundraiser has been started for a City of San Angelo Animal Services officer who was attacked by dogs on Nov. 6.

According to the GoFundMe webpage, the fundraiser was created on Nov. 11 by a relative of Floyd Jay Bias. The GoFundMe page stated that Bias was flown to Lubbock after being "attacked by a pack of pit bulls" and sustaining multiple injuries.

"His left arm is mangled and broken," the webpage reads. "They bit his head, shoulders, and legs too. They had to give him several units of blood because his pressure dropped so low it was hard to register. He almost bled to death."

The San Angelo Police Department held a joint press conference with the City on Nov. 7. Bias was not identified during the conference or in press releases issued in relation to the incident.

According to information provided during the conference and through a press release, San Angelo Public Safety Communications received several 911 calls at approximately 3 p.m. on Nov. 6 regarding "a man that was being attacked by numerous dogs" on Cloud Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, responding SAPD officers discovered that an Animal Services employee "had been attacked by at least two large breed dogs, causing injuries to his face, arms and legs." The employee was given medical aid and transported to Shannon ER, later being airlifted to an out-of-area hospital for "a higher level of care."

The SAPD reported that the dogs involved in the attack were surrendered by their owner and subsequently euthanized in adherence to local and state procedures. The organization stated that the SAPD Criminal Investigation Division was actively investigating the incident at the time of the press release's publication, adding that "charges could be forthcoming depending on the outcome of that investigation."

A press release issued by City Manager Daniel Valenzuela on Nov. 7 stated that the employee was in "critical condition." Valenzuela said in an update issued the day after that the employee was in Lubbock and "now in stable condition," although there was no estimated date for the worker's release.

The online fundraiser has raised almost $700 as of the time of publication and has a goal of $5,000. Information provided on the GoFundMe webpage stated that Bias "had 3 heart stents put in 3 weeks ago" and that he will now undergo multiple reconstructive surgeries to regain the use of his left arm.

"Anyone who has ever met him knows he is a good, honest, and hardworking person," the webpage reads. "He would never ask for a handout or for help for that matter. I'm going to ask for him. He will need any extra help he can get."
