SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — With the start of 2025 comes a new Texas ShareLunker season, which draws anglers from all over the country to Texas.
This program, which has been operating for 30 years, aims to promote bass fishing in the state of Texas. The ShareLunker season, which lasts from Jan. 1 through March 31, runs alongside spawning season for bass. The larger fish that are caught and submitted are used to spawn stock fish and improve fishing conditions in Texas.
"Just like people, fish have genetics. Some grow to very large sizes, some grow to a moderate size and they quit growing so we want to be able to grow trophy bass," said Texas Parks and Wildlife District Fisheries Biologist Lynn Wright.
Wright explained that anglers enjoy catching trophy-sized bass, so being able to use large bass to spawn and restock the lakes helps improve those chances and make fishing better in Texas.
On the second day of the 2025 season, Brady Stanford from Millersview reeled in a 13.13-pound bass at O.H. Ivie. Stanford's 27-inch-long catch was ranked as a Legacy class.
