SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Roman Rodriguez, the director of the Shannon Cancer Center, joined KLST's Randy Turner to share the center's latest news.

The Shannon Cancer Center recently obtained national accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. According to Rodriguez, this accreditation means that the nationally recognized benchmark says that the center has the framework, the resources and the leadership to support and provide "multi-disciplinary care" for the surrounding area.

"I just happen to be the one to draw the lucky straw," said Rodriguez. "It's definitely not the work that I do but the work of our physicians, our providers, our teams and leadership support and the board's vision to really help try to bring the best quality cancer care to our patients, neighbors and communities here in the Concho Valley."

Rodriguez shared that the team that has been working to obtain this accredidation extends beyond those who work in the cancer center.

"Our pathologist, our radiologist, our supportive care teams, our social workers, nurse navigators, marketing outreach as well as our physicians and nurses and radition therapists that do the, alot of the treatment work," he said.
