SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Texas Department of Public Safety reminds drivers to take extra precautions during inclement weather.
Less than an inch of snow or ice can create unsafe driving conditions. Texas Highway Patrol Sgt. Justin Baker shared it can be difficult to see ice on the road.
"You're looking at ice on the roadways. It could be black ice," Sgt. Baker said. "You don't want to let your guard down."
Sgt. Baker recommends avoiding unnecessary trips during wintry conditions but shared tips on how to stay safe if you will be traveling.
"Going at a safer speed, making sure that your vehicle is properly maintained to be driving on more inclement conditions, and then just going out there and giving yourself time," Sgt. Baker said.
Bridges and overpasses are the most susceptible to ice. Before hitting the road, plan to take access roads or alternate routes to your destination.
