SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The City of San Angelo's Animal Services has announced that 10 dogs will soon be euthanized if they are not rehomed after the San Angelo Animal Shelter exceeded its maximum capacity for dogs.
According to Animal Services, the San Angelo Animal Shelter has 183 dogs housed on-site as of Monday, Nov. 18, which is three dogs more than its maximum capacity. To compensate, the shelter has scheduled 10 dogs to be put down by 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, "unless adopted, fostered or transferred to another rescue."
The announcement comes 14 days after the City reopened its animal intake following a positive case of canine distemper reported in the shelter. Intake was closed on Oct. 10 and wouldn't be reopened until Nov. 4, meaning that intake was closed for 25 days.
The 10 dogs at risk of euthanasia are as follows, as per Animal Services:
Danburry - male shepherd mix
Absolute - female lab mix
Gin - female lab mix
Terry - male shepherd mix
Daisy - female hound mix
Regina - female shepherd mix
Gigi - female pit mix
