SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team claimed their second doubleheader sweep in as many days this afternoon at Mayer Softball Field, defeating Eastern New Mexico 10-1 in a five-inning run rule in game one before coming back to win 3-2 in game two in walk-off fashion.

The Greyhounds opened the scoring in game one, stringing together a couple of hits to score the afternoon's first run in the first inning.

The Rambelles responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame, with a single by Laylonna Applin and a walk by Tatiana Trotter setting Ashton McMillan, who homered for the second time this season over the left-field fence to make it 3-1.

Averie Gunther followed with a single before scoring on a Paris Brienesse two-out triple.

The score remained 4-1 until the fourth inning, when the Rambelles' lineup exploded for six runs on five hits and three walks.

Brienesse led off the inning with an infield single before stealing second and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt. The Swede would score on an Abby Brand bunt single, and the Rambelles would score the final five runs with two outs.

Applin homered down the left-field line, narrowly eluding the outstretched glove of the Greyhounds' left fielder and making it 7-1.

Gunther would knock in two runs on a double before scoring on a Zoey De Baca opposite field double to cap the score at 10-1.

Cheyenne Floyd earned her 13th win of the season, throwing four innings and allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out five Greyhounds. Raegan Sucher threw the final inning in relief, not allowing a baserunner.

Game two stayed scoreless until the third inning, when singles up the middle by Brand and Applin set up Trotter, whose single sneaked through the left side and plated Brand.

Solo home runs in the fifth and sixth innings saw the visitors grab a 2-1 lead.

The top of the sixth saw the inning end on a single to center field, which Trotter fielded and threw a dime to home plate to gun down a potential insurance run for the Greyhounds. The junior then led off the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run to left center field to tie the game at 2-all.

Brand led off the seventh inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt; her pinch runner, Carter Smith, scored on Applin's double to right center to secure the walk-off win and sweep of the Greyhounds.

Amelia Hatthorn started game two in the circle, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing three hits and one run while recording three strikeouts. Floyd entered the game in relief, pitching the final 2.2 innings and striking out four while allowing four hits and one run en route to her 14th win in 2025.

The Rambelles are 26-4 on the season and 17-3 in LSC play. They kick off a ten-game road trip next weekend, going to No. 3 West Texas A&M and Midwestern State.
