SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — With wintry weather bringing frigid conditions to the Concho Valley, the City of Brady has announced that it is establishing a temporary warming facility.
According to the City, the shelter will occupy the Ed Davenport Civic Center, which is located at 816 San Angelo Highway. The facility will be open beginning at 4 p.m. on Jan. 8 and remain open overnight through 10 a.m. on Jan. 10.
The City stated that the Salvation Army will provide "hot meals, cots and blankets." Showers will not be available at the facility, but restrooms and sinks are present. Residents are asked to clean up after themselves.
Those who use the facility are permitted to "bring board games, books, and other activities to pass the time, as long as it is not disruptive to others."
The City encourages residents to "dress warmly and bring a blanket, bedding and other essential items such as ready to eat food, non-alcoholic beverages, etc." It advises that, although the shelter will be heated, the facility may feel cool due to the colder temperatures.
The National Weather Service of San Angelo reported that "wintry precipitation" is expected to move into parts of the Concho Valley, including Brady, overnight before "turning to mostly rain by tomorrow afternoon." The National Weather Service's extended forecast stated as of the time of publication that overnight temperatures for Jan. 8 are expected to reach a low of 30 degrees.
