SERIES HISTORY:
All-Time Series: ASU leads the series 63-14
Last Meeting: Feb. 11, 2024: ASU, 24-1 – San Angelo, Texas
The Rams enter this weekend carrying a 19-game winning streak against the Aggies dating back to 2019. However, it is on the road when the Rams have faltered the most, having eight of the 14 losses across the series history in Lawton.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Rams took down Eastern New Mexico in a four-game sweep last weekend. Game one saw the Blue and Gold jump ahead early and never looking while the home crowd in game two witnessed a comeback that began with the Rams down 9-0 to eventually win 13-10.
Lane Hutchinson shined at the plate throughout the contest, hammering two home runs and registering ten RBI while scoring eight times himself. The senior from Slaughter, La. boosted his batting average from .385 to .403, becoming the sixth Rams to have a batting average over .400.
On the mound, the two lefty starters allowed the Rams to secure the series sweep with excellent performances of their own. Alizaeh Gutierrez tossed his second complete game of the season allowing just one run and striking out seven in game three victory. While Ryan Free pitched a season-high six innings where he to only allowed a singular run while striking out six in the series finale.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES:
Cameron is coming off a series on the road at Lubbock Christian in which they were swept and outscored 58-25 which dropped their record to 13-31 (13-31, LSC). Despite an underwhelming season, the Aggies have yet to be swept at home having taken at least one game in each series against Texas A&M-Kingsville, West Texas A&M, UT Permian Basin, Sul Ross State and St. Mary's.
At the plate, the Aggies sit in 12th in overall team hitting with a .275 team batting average. Furthermore, they only sport four players who are hitting above .300 with the best being Zane Roos who is swinging for a .364 batting average and leads the team in OPS (1.193), Runs Scored (41), hits (48), Doubles (12), Home Runs (9) and RBI (44).
The Aggies pitching provides a bit of a bright spot as their 9.80 team ERA puts them in 11th in the Lone Star Conference. Victor Munoz is the only pitcher on the roster who has seen the bump in all his scheduled starts. His team best 6.05 ERA and 3-7 record may not be where he wants it, but he is the only pitcher on the roster who has tossed a complete game for the Aggies, achieving that feat three times thus far.
